Mass timber building structures are typically 75% lighter than traditional reinforced concrete structures due to the high strength-to-weight ratio of timber. This results in a 30% reduction in overall building weight and a similar reduction in the cost and carbon impact of the support structure and foundations. Reducing the weight of the super-structure is particularly advantageous on inner-city development sites with poor ground conditions or when building on existing buildings.
